Former LA City Commissioner Blames Child Porn Charges on Tumor

For months now, former L.A. City Commissioner Albert Abrams is said to have been trying talk his way out of being arrested on charges of child pornography. But it looks like the U.S. Attorney has heard enough as federal agents arrived and took Abrams into custody last Wednesday.

He’d been trying to convince the feds that the lewd images on his computer were due to a tumor on his spine. Abrams had presided as the president of the L.A. Board of Neighborhood Commissioners — a position appointed by the Mayor himself – until stepping down recently when word broke that his home was being raided by FBI agents. FBI officials said they became aware of his activity when they were investigating a file-sharing network.

The tumor, he alleges, forced him to log onto the internet  under the name “BoywonderUSA” and acquire thousands of images of child pornography featuring children as young as 5 years old.

“It was what my split personality decided to do. But that’s what happens when you have tumors,” he said.

It’s been pointed out that there could be a snag in his plan. While Abrams tumor was diagnosed in May, the pictures on his computer date back well over ten years.  If convicted on all counts Abrams faces up to 150 years in prison.
